Bollywood star Ranveer Singh is all set to hit the theatres in April with Kabir Khan’s upcoming film ’83 based on the 1983 World Cup. In the movie, he will be portraying the role of Kapil Dev, who became the first Indian captain to lift the coveted 50-over World Cup in 1983 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
As it was Kapil Dev’s birthday on Monday (January 06), the actor took to his Instagram handle to wish the legend through a heartfelt post. In the pictures, Kapil and Ranveer can be seen enjoying each other’s company. He captioned the post as, “Happy Birthday, Legend! Thank you for showing us the way ❤🙏🏽 You made us proud. Now it’s our turn… @83thefilm 🏏🏆.”
In the upcoming film, which is also a biopic of Kapil Dev, actress Deepika Padukone will be playing the role of Ranveer’s onscreen wife, Romi Dev.
Ranveer trained with Kapil on the film’s sets in Dharamshala and also spent some time with him at his residence to further perfect his character. Speaking to news agency IANS earlier, Ranveer had said: “I think what I gained from Kapil sir has been invaluable. There is no other way I’d do it. I am very fortunate, privileged, and honored that he welcomed me into his home. He was warm, welcoming, and forthcoming. Everything I gained from him during those days is going to be invaluable for the construction of my performance,” he added.
The film is slated to release on April 10 this year.
