IND vs AUS: Rishabh Pant suffers concussion after helmet blow; KL Rahul dons wicketkeeping gloves

India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant suffered a concussion after being hit on his helmet while batting in the first ODI against Australia in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Pant got hit on the helmet by a Pat Cummins bouncer, which also led to his dismissal for 28 in the 44th over of India’s innings.

The southpaw was looking to pull the third delivery of the over from Cummins but got beaten for pace. The ball hit the top edge of his bat and then hit his helmet. The blow was so fierce that the ball flew towards the point where Ashton Turner took an easy catch.

Pant did not come out to keep wickets when Australia came out for their chase with KL Rahul donning the gloves for the Men in Blue.

“Rishabh Pant has got a concussion after being hit on his helmet while batting. KL Rahul is keeping wickets in his absence. Pant is under observation at the moment,” BCCI said in a statement.

India, meanwhile, were bowled out for 255 in 49.1 overs with Mitchell Starc being the pick of the bowlers for the Aussies. Starc registered figures of 3 for 56 while Cummins and Kane Richardson took two wickets each. Spinners Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar also got a wicket.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan top-scored for India with 74 off 91 balls while Rahul (41), Pant (28) and Ravindra Jadeja (25) also made useful contributions.
