The Indian cricket team has been fined 20 percent of its match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against New Zealand in the fifth and final T20I in Mount Maunganui. They were found one over short of the target after the time allowances were taken into consideration.

Even in the fourth game played in Wellington, the Indian team was penalized after being caught two overs short of the target.

“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” the ICC said in a statement.

Match Referee Chris Broad imposed the sanction, while on-field umpires Chris Brown and Shaun Haig, and third umpire Ashley Mehrotra leveled the charge.

India stand-in captain for the fifth match, Rohit Sharma, accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

In the match, the visitors defeated the hosts by seven runs at Bay Oval on Sunday to complete a 5-0 series whitewash. KL Rahul, who smashed 278 runs in five games, grabbed the ‘Player of the Series’ award.
