Marcus Stoinis continued his red-hot form with the bat in the ongoing ninth edition of the Big Bash League and scored a quickfire 83 off 54 balls against Sydney Thunder on Thursday. He has now registered his name in the record book by becoming the player with most runs in a single edition of BBL.
Stoinis also helped Melbourne Stars reach the final of the BBL 09 season, where they will face Sydney Sixers at the SCG on Saturday, February 08.
Stoinis’ surpassed Hobart Hurricanes’ opener D’Arcy Short, who previously held the BBL record with 637 runs in 2018-19.
In 2019-20 edition, Stoinis scored 6 half-centuries and a hundred in his run tally of 695 (16 innings). He averages 57.91 this season.
Overall, Stoinis is BBL’s ninth-highest run-scorer. He has scored 1,731 runs in 60 matches.
Stoinis, who surprisingly was not picked for Australia’s upcoming limited-overs series tour of South Africa, also holds the record for highest runs in a single BBL inning. In the ongoing season, he smashed an unbeaten 147 off 79 balls against Sydney Sixers.
The 30-year-old all-rounder will now be representing Delhi Capitals in the IPL 13 and hoping to make a strong statement there as well.
