Ricky Ponting rolled back the years with an excellent batting performance during the Bushfire Cricket Bash at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Sunday.
The dose of nostalgia was an ever-present as few of the legends to have ever played the game took the field to raise funds for the devastating bushfire incident that led to the loss of many lives in Australia.
The Bushfire charity match threw up a plethora of unforgettable moments, but none can come close to the moment when Ponting decided to have a piece of Courtney Walsh’s “moon ball”. Walsh’s rustiness was quite apparent when the ball flew off his hands and went past the batsman.
Punter, however, decided to make the most of the ‘moon ball’ as he proceeded to run towards short third-man before duly depositing it into the stands. But it was deemed a dead ball by the umpire as Ponting had some fun taking on the West Indies legend.
