Yashasvi Jaiswal, arguably the best batting prospect from the recent U19 World Cup, is now looking forward to sharing the dressing room with modern greats ‘Steve Smith and Ben Stokes’ at Rajasthan Royals in the forthcoming edition of IPL.
Jaiswal took his tally to 400 runs in the tournament, powered by the century against Pakistan in the semis and a gritty 88 against Bangladesh in the finals.
However, the Mumbai batter could not take his team across the finishing line as India lost the finals to Bangladesh.
At the 2020 players’ auction, Rajasthan Royals were quick to bag the services of the gifted southpaw, with a lucrative deal of INR 2.4 crores.
“For me, it is a very good opportunity to play in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals because I can go and talk with the World’s best players like Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler. I am excited to learn from them. It will be exciting for me as it is my first IPL, and I will try my best to do whatever I can,” Jaiswal told India Today.
The inspirational story of Jaiswal, from selling pani-puris at the streets of Mumbai, and then making it to the highest level at U19 cricket, has already done several rounds all over the media.
Jaiswal now has an opportunity to share the dressing room with prominent names in world cricket at the moment.
“When I was in 10th and was selling pani-puris, I did not think about anything because that time that was required for me. And I was really enjoying that. I knew that it was fine to do that. I will not get anything easy. Every time I need to work hard for it, then I will get it. So it helps me in getting a strong mindset,” added Jaiswal.
