The Australian cricketers are currently playing the prestigious Sheffield Shield cricket – a domestic first-class cricket competition of Australia. It is contested between teams from six states of the nation. This tournament was first started in the 1892-93 season between New South Wales, South Australia, and Victoria. Queensland was added in the 1926-27 season, whereas Western Australia and Tasmania were included in 1947-48 and 1977-78 seasons, respectively.
The current season (2019-20) kicked off in November last year before the Big Bash League (BBL). Now, after the BBL competition, it resumed again from February 14. All teams have played seven games so far, with New South Wales leading the table (41.64 points). Queensland are at second spot with 32.98 points, while Tasmania are sitting at the last place with 16.49 points.
In the 24th game held between Victoria and Queensland, an incident took place which caught everyone’s eye and quickly became the talk of the town.
Victoria posted 330/9 on the board in their first innings with the help of a terrific unbeaten century from Seb Gotch (102 not out off 162 balls) and Matthew Short, who missed the triple-figure by two runs.
Short shined in his 112-balls 98 knock, but also faced a brutal bouncer from Queensland’s pacer Billy Stanlake. It happened in the 22nd over of Victoria’s innings when Short failed to read the nasty bouncer delivered by Stanlake. He took a blow on the chest and went down instantly.
The players, along with the Aussie speedster, quickly went on to check the right-hander and ensured he was alright. Fortunately, Short was fine and escaped any serious injury.

Queensland, in their first innings, were all-out for 184, thanks to Victorian all-rounder Will Sutherland, who took a 5-fer. Wicket-keeper batsman Lachlan Pfeffer (50) was Queensland’s highest scorer.
At the end of the second day’s play, Victoria reached 73-3 with opener Travis Dean (34) and bouncer survivor in the first innings, Short (15) at the crease.
