India’s young opener Prithvi Shaw faced a lot of criticism after his poor show in the first Test against New Zealand in Wellington. He scored 15 and 10 in the two-match series opener, which the visitors lost by 10-wickets.
However, in the ongoing second Test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, Shaw exhibited his class and smashed his career’s second half-century. When it comes to overseas, it was Shaw’s first fifty in red-ball cricket.

Shaw also etched his name in record books as he became the second-youngest Indian to slam a half-century in New Zealand after the great Sachin Tendulkar.
Youngest Indian batsmen to hit Test fifty in New Zealand:
Sachin Tendulkar in 1990 – 16 years and 291 days
Prithvi Shaw in 2020 – 20 years and 112 days
Atul Wasan in 1990 – 21 years and 336 days
Brijesh Patel in 1976 – 23 years 81 days
Sandeep Patil in 1981 – 24 years and 187 days
Although, after reaching the fifty, Shaw couldn’t continue the momentum and fell for a wide delivery bowled by Kyle Jamieson for 54. Apart from the 20-year-old, Cheteshwar Pujara (54), and Hanuma Vihari (55) contributed well to help India post a decent total of 242.
