In the ground where India’s swashbuckling opener, Virender Sehwag, brought up his maiden triple century (309 vs Pakistan in 2004), South African southpaw Rilee Rossouw toppled records to register the fastest century in Pakistan Super League (PSL) history.

Rossouw notched up the record feat in the 12th match of the tournament between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators at the former’s home ground in Multan.

Coming into bat, the Sultans were precariously placed at 48-3 in the 9th over with English contingent James Vince and Moeen Ali back in the hut.

Together with Shan Maqsood (46 off 32), Rossouw stitched a match-winning partnership of 139 from just 64 deliveries, which enabled the hosts to post a daunting total of 200 runs in front of the Gladiators.

Shane Watson’s heroics (80 off 41), which consisted of seven boundaries and an equal number of maximums, could not help the Gladiators achieve the monumental target, with Imran Tahir (2/27) and Bilawal Bhatti (3/26) being the chief architects of destruction for their chase.

The Sultans assert their domination sitting at the top of the table, with four wins out of their five games in the competition.

Brief Scores:

Multan Sultans 199/5 in 20 overs (Rossouw 100*, Masood 46; Nawaz 1-16) beat Quetta Gladiators 169/7 in 20 overs (Watson 80, Roy 30; Bhatti 3-26) beat Quetta Gladiators by 30 runs.
