New Zealand star Suzie Bates pulled off a stunning catch in the ongoing edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Monday (March 02).

Bates was stationed at long-on when Beth Mooney drilled a ball down the ground during the Australian innings.

The ball looked as if it would cross the boundary rope for six before Bates ran and jumped on time, clutching the ball with both her feet off the ground.

Bates’ catch left Australian cricket greats Mel Jones and Lisa Sthalekar stunned on commentary.

“What a catch! Suzie Bates, take a bow. That’s the way to end a partnership,” Jones exclaimed.

Sthalekar, on the other hand, explained how Bates’ basketball background might have allowed her to complete the athletic feat.

“You see Suzie Bates flying through the air, taking the catch athletically. Always in control of the boundary line, always in control of the ball,” she said.

Meanwhile, a stylish 60 from Mooney and the controlled bowling kept intact Australia’s record of making at least the semi-finals of every Women’s T20 World Cup in a nail-biting four-run win over New Zealand.

The defending champions and four-time winners joined India, South Africa, and England in the last four, with the games scheduled to be played in Sydney on Thursday (March 05).
