SA vs AUS 2020: South African pacer Lungi Ngidi registers his best figures in ODIs

South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi claimed six wickets as Australia were bundled out for 271 in the second ODI at the Mangaung Oval on Wednesday.

Ngidi registered his career-best figures of six for 58. He dismissed three of Australia’s top four in his first spell of three for 26 and took three more wickets in the death overs.

Australia captain Aaron Finch and middle-order batsman D’Arcy Short both scored 69, but due to Ngidi’s brilliance, they could not capitalize on the rapid start provided by the openers.

Finch and David Warner added 50 runs off 37 balls before Ngidi had Warner caught by Janneman Malan in the covers. The Proteas pacer followed it up by dismissing the two inform Aussie batters, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, off successive balls.

Labuschagne was Ngidi’s 50th ODI wicket, which came in his 26 match – the fastest South African to reach the landmark.

The Proteas side only conceded 49 runs in the last 10 overs, making a superb comeback to keep Australia to a gettable total.
