This may come as a surprise to many but believe it or not, there was a petition started on Change.org to stop Indian men’s cricket team captain Virat Kohli and former opening batsman Virender Sehwag from congratulating Team India in ICC tournaments as it is believed that their wishes seem to jinx it.
A fan named Abhinay Thakur started a weird petition which calls for suspension of the social media accounts of Kohli and Sehwag if they post congratulatory messages.
The bizarre petition was started on Sunday after India lost the Women’s T20 World Cup final to Australia by 85 runs.
“We are not against Virat Kohli, but we have seen how panauti his wishes can be for any good that India can achieve. Today is International Women’s day, and my heart is broken after seeing the condition of India Women in ICC World Cup Final. So please sign this petition in huge numbers so that this message can get to Virat Kohli,” the petition read as quoted by India Today.
According to the Abhinay, they will start a new petition to remove Kohli as the skipper and make Rohit Sharma as the captain of the Indian team at ICC tournaments.
“Our organization will start another petition that will be to make Rohit Sharma India’s captain because we have seen the condition of India in the ICC tournaments since Mr. Panauti has become India’s captain,” the petition read further.
Earlier, both Kohli and Sehwag congratulated the Indian Women’s team when it qualified for the finals after their semi-final clash with England got washed out. However, in the finals, India lost the contest against mighty Australia by 85 runs.
Congratulations to the Indian Women's team on qualifying for the @T20WorldCup final. We are proud of you girls and wish you all the luck for the finals. 🇮🇳👏 @BCCIWomen

Would have loved seeing the semi-finals but Indra Devta ke aage kaun jeet sakta hai.
Mehnat ka parinaam achha milta hai. A reward for Winning all the matches in the group stage. Congratulations @BCCIWomen and wishing you glory this Sunday #T20WorldCup— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) March 5, 2020
Indian teams, be it men or women, haven’t won an ICC tournament since MS Dhoni-led side lifted the Champions Trophy in 2013.
