Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma is currently suffering from an ankle injury which he sustained during India’s recently concluded tour of New Zealand. The right-arm fast bowler did play the opening Test of the two-match series and claimed a five-wicket haul, but ahead of the second game, he injured his ankle yet again.
Ishant has featured in 97 Tests for Team India and taken 297 scalps. He also played 80 One-Day International, along with 14 T20I games in which the 31-year-old bagged 115 and 8 wickets, respectively.
In the red-ball cricket, Ishant has delivered lots of game-changing spells, and out of those, many fans still believe that his (Ishant) most memorable spell came in 2007 Perth Test when he made former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting dance to his tunes, but surprisingly that isn’t Ishant’s first choice.
During a chat show on Cricbuzz, the Delhi fast bowler accepted that it was indeed a career-defining spell, but not his favourite.
“Alright, that was the best spell of my life. The reason being, at that point in time, I didn’t know anything about cricket,” said Ishant.
The 6 ft 4 in bowler revealed that the spell he bowled in the 2014 Lord’s Test remains his most favourite in the longest format. The right-armer claimed seven wickets for 74 runs and guided India to a memorable 95-run victory over England..
“If you see the kind of performances that I am putting in recent times, those are much better spells than what I bowled to Ponting. The Lord’s spell was a much better spell,” added Ishant.
