Former Sri Lankan spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan has donated an amount of 5 million Sri Lankan Rupees, contributing to the relief funds designated for the victims of COVID-19 pandemic.
With the outbreak of the deadly virus in South Asia, countries such as India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka have imposed lockdowns and curfews in all regions.
But it is the poor, the daily wage earners, and small business-holders who have been the most severely hit with the outbreak of the pandemic.
Cricketers and various other sportsperson, have all joined hands in order to fight the Coronavirus together.
While speaking to The Island, Murali appealed one and all to do their bit to help the government combat the virus which has consumed over 48,000 lives, infecting 950,000 people.
“At this hour, the government can not look at everything. So it is important that those who can like us help the government in whatever the way we can. I hope others too will support the government in their effort to fight this epidemic,” Murali said.
Also, Murali thought it was important to urge the citizens of Sri Lanka to follow guidelines issued by the respective authorities.
“I would like to urge cricket fans and all Sri Lankans to follow instructions given by authorities. The most important thing is to stay at home. Don’t panic. The next week or so is going to be crucial. There will be shortcomings but we have to adjust,” concluded the spin-wizard.
Murali recently featured for the Sri Lankan legends in the Road Safety World Series in the star-studded lineup of the past. The tournament was suspended mid-way with the coronavirus hitting the shores of India.
