There has been banter between MS Dhoni and Kevin Pietersen since 2011. The reason is that Dhoni had the English star batsman caught behind during a Test match in India’s tour of England that year and still refers to KP as his first Test wicket.
Pietersen raised the issue during the IPL 2017 as well when Dhoni was representing Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), where they were also former teammates. KP then said to Manoj Tiwary, who was mic’ed up, “Can you do me a favour? Can you just whisper MS that I’m a better golfer than him.”
Dhoni gave a perfect reply to Pietersen by saying, “He’s still my first Test wicket.”
Well, in that Test match, Pietersen opted for a DRS and was given not out as the hot spot failed to produce any impression of the bat. Still, Dhoni has multiple times called KP his first Test wicket.
This issue was once again brought up during Pietersen’s Instagram Live chat with Indian captain Virat Kohli. During the chat, Pietersen mentioned: “A lot of people told me, I am Dhoni’s first test wicket. I referred it and I was given not out remember?” To this Kohli replied, “Yeah, I know. Look the thing is, MS has a point; it came up on the stump mics and nothing came on the hotspot so he has a point.”
To this, a frustrated KP replied, “Oh, you stop backing him.”
KP: A lot of people told me, I am Dhoni's first test wicket. I referred it & I was given not out remember?
Virat : Yeah, I know. Look the thing is, MS has a point, It came up on the stump mics and nothing came on the hotspot so he has a point.
