Australia’s premier batsman, Steve Smith, in a recent interaction, stated that he would love to win a Test series in India. Smith tagged the Indian Test team as the best in the world and rated India as the most challenging place to achieve the feat.
The last time Australia visited India for a four-match Test series in 2017, India won the series by 2-1. Smudge set up the series brilliantly with his ton at a rank-turner in Pune. His century is rated amongst the best by a player from a visiting team in the recent past.
In the second innings, Smith’s 108 helped Australia win by a massive margin by 333 runs. However, India came back after the humiliating loss at Pune, by winning the matches at Dharamshala and Bengaluru.
“I would love to win a Test series in India. I think as an Australian cricketer we talk about like Ashes is always big, World Cup is big but I think now India is no.1 team in the world and it is a very difficult place to play Test cricket, so I would love to win a series there,” Smith told teammate Ish Sodhi in a podcast organised by Rajasthan Royals.
Further, into the conversation, Smith touched upon the skill-sets owned by India’s ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
“Jadeja in the sub-continent, why he is so good because he hits that good length and one ball skids on and one spins, and it just all looks same out of the hand. I think consistency in length is key and then having at least one variation,” added the Rajasthan Royals captain.
Smith was set to resume his stint at the Jaipur-based franchise in the thirteenth season of Indian Premier League (IPL) but the BCCI has suspended the tournament till April 15 amid COVID-19 pandemic. Smith concluded by saying he hopes the 2020 edition of IPL does take place.
