England all-rounder Sam Curran has expressed his excitement and said that he is looking forward to playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, under the leadership of MS Dhoni. The new recruit of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hopes that the 13th season of the lucrative league would happen sometime in the current year.
The Surrey cricketer was picked up by CSK during IPL 2020 auctions for INR 5.5 crore.
Sam had a fantastic run in the 2019 IPL for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). In nine games, the left-arm medium-pacer grabbed ten wickets, including a hat-trick against Delhi Capitals.
Curran was supposed to join the CSK camp after the completion of the Test series in Sri Lanka, but due to a coronavirus pandemic, both Test series and IPL got postponed.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old took to social media to interact with his fans and joined an Instagram live chat organised by CSK. During which, Curran expressed that he is excited to play alongside Dhoni and it would be an excellent experience for him.
“I am obviously very gutted to see what’s going on at the moment. We would have probably been together at the moment in Chennai, but obviously, there are a lot more important things going on. I am very excited to be playing alongside the captain, MS Dhoni. That’s going to be really like an incredible experience for me,” said Curran.
Curran also heaped praises for CSK and said that I’ve heard from Sam Billings that CSK is an amazing franchise and Stephen Fleming is an incredible coach.
“They have a great coach in Stephen Fleming. And there are huge Indian superstars there as well. Just to be able to pick their brains I have actually heard from Sam Billings. He was there for the last couple of years. It’s an amazing franchise and a great set up. It’s something I am hoping that IPL will still go ahead whenever that is, and I will get to represent Chennai,” Curran said in the chat.
The English cricketer further hailed Dhoni and termed him as a legend of international cricket. He said that CSK skipper had achieved so many things in his cricketing career.
“There are a lot of extremely talented players, but I think it’s hard to go past MS Dhoni. Dhoni is obviously a legend of international cricket. He has achieved so much in the game. I am really hoping the IPL does go ahead and I can pick his brains and play alongside him. I have heard he is a great captain. I am just excited to be part of the franchise,” the Northampton-born added further.
