Ashish Nehra picks the greatest captain of IPL

Former Indian paceman Ashish Nehra was a part of a jury which selected Indian Premier League (IPL) ‘s Greatest of All Time (GOAT) players under different category on Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket Connected’.

The jury selected MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as the best captains of IPL. During the show, Ashish was asked to name the best captain of the cash-rich league. The former left-arm pacer picked Dhoni over Rohit as the greatest captain of IPL.

The Delhi-born, who featured for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for two seasons in 2014 and 2015, said since he has played the maximum matches under Dhoni so his choice would be the Ranchi-born cricketer.

Ashish also added that he hasn’t played under the captainship of Rohit so can’t name him.

“My pick for the greatest captain is MS Dhoni, under whose captaincy I have played the maximum, be it for the national team or in the IPL. I haven’t played under Rohit, so I choose Dhoni,” said the 40-year-old.

Dhoni guided CSK to three IPL titles in 2010, 2011 and 2018. Under his captaincy, the Chepauk-based franchise became the only side in the history of the competition to have qualified for the playoffs in every season they have participated in.

Rohit, on the other hand, is the only captain to have led his team to a record four IPL crowns after his team defeated Dhoni’s CSK by one run in the IPL 2019 finals.

Ashish had played 88 matches in his IPL career, in which the veteran bowler has taken 106 wickets with an economy of 7.84 and strike-rate of 18. One time he claimed a four-wicket haul as well.
