New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham is widely popular for his humorous take on various issues on social media. He is often seen engaging with fans and trolling them with epic responses. But how good is he when it comes to responding to sledging? Well, the Kiwi star has himself revealed an incident when he used his humour while replying to a sledge thrown at him by Australian speedster Mitchell Starc.
Neesham recently appeared on the Marc Peard Sports Daily Debrief Facebook show hosted by Marc Peard, Nathan Rarere and Blake Ayshford. The 29-year-old was asked there to describe the funniest sledging incident, which is his favourite. Neesham recalled the 2015 episode when he was a part of the BlackCaps squad which toured Australia.
Neesham shared the moment when New Zealand were on the verge of a defeat on the final day of the first Test in Brisbane. The Auckland-born said that when he came to bat after the loss of the fourth wicket, Aussie pacer Starc came up to him and used a pretty smart line to sledge him.
“I came out to bat and Mitchell Starc, who was bowling thunderbolts, came up to me and said, ‘Bit early for a night watchman, isn’t it?” said Neesham as quoted by NZ Herald.
However, Neesham had the last laugh as he came up with a pretty savage response.
“I turned to him and said ‘mate, it’s day five. There’s no night. This is it’,” added the Otago player.
Neesham has appeared for 12 Tests, 63 ODIs and 18 T20Is for the Kiwis, in which the all-rounder has scored 709, 1286 and 185 runs, respectively. When it comes to performing with the ball, Neesham has 14 wickets to his name in red-ball format, while in ODIs and T20Is, he has taken 61 and 13 scalps, respectively.
