Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) talismanic captain MS Dhoni is known for creating a homely atmosphere at the dressing room.
During the 2018 auctions, CSK received a substantial amount of flak for picking a squad with several members above the age of 30. Some of them had even crossed 35.
However, the bids turned out to be a masterstroke for coach Stephen Fleming as they went on to prove that there is no substitute for experience in the game renowned for youngsters.
CSK went on to win the 2018 edition of the IPL and also reached the finals of 2019, only marginally losing to their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.
Meanwhile, during an interaction, MSD conceded that “when you have a squad with several veterans, you’re bound to travel with their families and a lot of kids”.
Dhoni was seen sprinting with sons of teammates Shane Watson and Imran Tahir after one of the IPL matches. Leaving behind Watson’s son, Mahi picked up Tahir’s son, Gibson, and carried him across the finishing line.
While talking to CSK co-host Rupha Ramani in a video chat, Tahir registered his gratitude for Mahi’s gesture towards his kid.
“It was a very special moment for my son. Very grateful to Mahi bhai. You know what a wonderful guy he is and what a wonderful captain he is. He is also a great human being. That inspires me more about him and his family,” said the former Proteas star.
Tahir was also part of Rising Pune Supergiants and played under MSD, before donning the yellow jersey for the Chennai based franchise.
The 41-year old South African, who is a franchise cricket wayfarer, was supposed to take part in the thirteenth edition of the IPL. However, the tournament is now postponed indefinitely amid COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
The leg-spinner had represented the Multan Sultans in the 2020 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
