England’s World-cup winning wicket-keeper batsman, Jos Buttler, has heaped praises on his Indian counterpart, MS Dhoni, tagging him as his role model.
Since making his debut in 2011, Buttler turned out to be an integral part of England’s middle-order with his swashbuckling approach.
Buttler translated his international reputation into the Indian Premier League (IPL) during his stint for Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.
The 29-year-old Somerset cricketer paid rich dividends for Royals with his promotion at the opening slot.
Further, Buttler idolized Dhoni for his composure under chaos all around him and his performances in crunch situations.
“MS Dhoni has always been a big idol of mine and chaos is always going around him, people wanting a bit of him, the cricket and the noise. It is such a great lesson just to watch him and see first-hand how to manage all that thing if you have to perform at the top level and perform in those crunch moment, that certainly has been one of the massive pluses,” Buttler was quoted as saying in My Khel.
Together with Ben Stokes, Steve Smith and Jofra Archer, Buttler forms the core of overseas contingent at the Royals. Buttler treated his experience in India’s marquee T20 event as a huge learning curve.
“It was one of the pressures you have to learn, especially in India, as an overseas player, you are one of the four in the team, and you know the other four who are not playing are also world-class players. So, you are under pressure to perform. So that’s been a great learning curve. One of the things I came out with from the first IPL is to just learn to deal with the chaos,” Buttler added.
Buttler, amid worldwide lockdown, has been quite active on Rajasthan Royals’ podcast along with spin consultant Ish Sodhi.
