Out of favour Indian international Suresh Raina, received massive backing from Indian vice-captain, Rohit Sharma, regarding his contention for a place in the Indian team.
Raina and Rohit engaged in a conversation via Instagram Live session on Tuesday, where the two talked about a wide range of issues related to cricket.
Considering Raina’s experience and his all-round abilities, Rohit stated there were talks within the team to draft the crafty left-hander into the Indian team.
It looked as though Raina made his way back into the team after initially facing the axe post-2015 South Africa ODI series.
Raina made an impressive comeback in the T20I format in the series against Australia, South Africa and England. However, Raina has been out of the reckoning for a while now, playing his last match back in 2018.
“I know it is very tough to be out of the team after playing for so many years. We used to talk that we should have Raina in the team in some way. You have the experience and ability with bowling and fielding,” Rohit told Raina during the interaction.
“I feel that we have seen you play for such a long time, somewhere I feel that somehow or the other you should be back in the team. But then we will see, we make do with what we have in our hands,” added Rohit.
To which Raina replied by saying that injuries were a big part why he lost place in the Indian team. The 33-year old believed that he has a lot of cricket left in him.
“I had an injury and a surgery which was a big reason why I lost my place. I still have a lot of cricket left in me. Selection is not in our hands, performances are. I have always enjoyed my cricket and the big players always backed us when we were young. So that is what we need, someone to support us and show the way.” Raina said.
During the chat, Rohit also enquired about MS Dhoni and all the speculations hovering on him. But, Raina went ahead and revealed that he saw Dhoni fit and batting well and that only he can answer about his availability for the Indian team.
