The future of New Zealand cricket has never been in safer hands than that of their talismanic captain, Kane Williamson.

‘Man of the Tournament’ in the 2019 ODI World Cup in England, won many hearts after receiving an unfair yet heartbreaking defeat in the final of the showpiece event.

Williamson proved to be a true ambassador of the Gentlemen’s game with his cool gesture and demeanour even in high-pressure and controversial situations.

During a recent interaction, Williamson was asked to pick a leaf out from the batting books of modern greats Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, David Warner and Steve Smith.

When it came to his Indian counterpart, as well as close friend, Kohli, Kane wanted to borrow everything from him, he said in a jovial manner. It’s the greatest testimony to the mutual admiration and the respect they have for each other.

The recent Indian tour of New Zealand witnessed the two sharing a candid chat on the boundary rope, watching the action.

Further, Williamson suggested that he was in awe of the way Kohli hits the ball, and would like to borrow all skills from the Indian batting extraordinaire.

When it came to Babar, Kane indicated his admiration for his cover-drive and back-foot punches. Even fellow Kiwi, Simon Doull appreciated the quality of Babar’s cover drive recently.

Despite being Trans-Tasman foes, New Zealand and Australian players have enjoyed a commendable relationship, thanks to the Indian Premier League (IPL). Both Warner and Williamson have successfully led the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the recent seasons.

The Black Caps skipper was all praises for Warner’s backfoot play and desired to borrow the skill from the Australian swashbuckler. Lastly, from Smith, Williamson would like to acquire the former Aussie skipper’s ability to find gaps.

Smith has wreaked havoc in the opposition’s bowling lineups, with his ability to play marathon knocks in Test cricket. “We all want to hit the ball like Virat and find the gaps like Steve Smith,” Williamson told Cricbuzz.
