Pakistan’s left-arm seamer, Mohammad Amir, single-handedly helped his team beat India during the 2017 Champions Trophy, by picking up the cream of Indian batting.
The formidable top three of the Indian batting lineup – Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli – have dominated world cricket in coloured clothing. However, Amir dismissed the top three Indian batsmen without troubling the scorers.
Amir also bowled an unplayable spell against India during the 2016 Asia Cup where Kohli just managed to see through the dangerous period and saw his team through.
However, Amir has had the better of Rohit where he exposed his weakness against the inswinging deliveries.
Recently, Amir was asked about the Indian batsman whom he is always keen to dismiss. Famous Pakistani journalist Saj Sadiq asked Amir, “Who is the batsman that you are always keen to dismiss?”. To which Amir replied by saying, “There are lots, but that has to be Rohit Sharma.”
After his sensational bowling during the 2016 Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, all eyes were on Amir ahead of the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
Before the high-octane finals of the coveted tournament, Rohit tagged Amir as a ‘normal’ bowler in regards to the much-awaited duel between the two. Moreover, post stellar show in the finals, Amir went on to tag Rohit as an ‘extraordinary batsman’.
“That was his opinion about me and he is entitled to that opinion. Maybe his opinion about me has now changed. But let’s get one thing clear, I would never call him an ordinary batsman, in fact, I would call him an extraordinary batsman. His record for India is superb and I respect him,” Amir told Sky Sports.
The two will face off yet again during the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia and the Asia Cup in Dubai.
