Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis has advised both Shahid Afridi and Gautam Gambhir to end their social-media war. Afridi and Gambhir had been involved in heated social media exchanges. Now, after seeing all this, Waqar has urged both former internationals to calm down and be sensible.
The former seamer said that the banter between Gambhir and Afridi has been going on for ‘way too long’ therefore he has suggested the India and Pakistan star players to ‘talk it out’. He said people are going to love their banter, but the two cricketers should show some maturity.
“The banter between Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi has been going on for a while now. I think they both got to be smart, sensible, and calm down. It has been going on for way too long. My advice to them is to talk it may be out if you cannot really calm it down,” Waqar said on chat series “Q20” on GloFans.
“In social media, if you carry on that, people are going to love it, and people are enjoying it and that I feel that they both should be sensible and smart,” he added.
Waqar further said that a cricket series would boost relations between the two neighbouring countries.
“I think Pakistan (and) India should play and should play regularly to avoid depriving cricket lovers,” the 48-year-old added further.
The veteran cricketer feels that Indo-Pak bilateral series will take place soon, however, is unsure where it would take place. Waqar stated that he is hopeful to see the Indo-Pak series taking place in either India or Pakistan.
“I do see Pakistan and India playing bilateral series. I am not sure where though, but I hope it will be either in Pakistan or in India. You don’t want to see them playing in some other country because that’s where you want to see them. You want to see them playing in their own countries. But I definitely say that in the next few years, I would say, Pakistan India will be playing,” concluded Waqar.
Earlier, former India opener Gambhir showed anger at Afridi for his controversial comments on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Kashmir. Former Pakistani captain had even requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to include a team from Kashmir in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which triggered a lot of attention.
“I would like to request PCB to introduce a team from Kashmir in next season. I wish to play my last PSL season from Kashmir team, in fact as their captain,” Afridi had said.
After Afridi’s statement on Kashmir, Gambhir had responded by saying that Afridi is behaving like a 16-year-old and termed him as a joker.
“Pak has 7 lakh force backed by 20 Cr ppl says 16 yr old man @SAfridiOfficial. Yet begging for Kashmir for 70 yrs. Jokers like Afridi, Imran & Bajwa can spew venom against India & PM @narendramodi ji to fool Pak ppl but won’t get Kashmir till judgment day! Remember Bangladesh?” Gambhir had tweeted.
