MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, the two stalwarts of Indian cricket, have a completely different character. One is ‘calm and cool’ while the other is ‘very aggressive and intense’ on the field. All these qualities get reflected in their captaincy styles as well. Virat is a very aggressive captain, while Dhoni is ice-cool in nature.
However, both the players have led the Indian cricket team successfully and helped them to reach the zenith. Dhoni brought back the calmness in the camp and led his side from behind the stumps for ten years. After taking the baton from Dhoni’s hand, now Virat is leading the team from the front with his fearless attitude.
While comparisons continue between Dhoni and Kohli in terms of leadership, the same question was asked to India pacer Umesh Yadav during a recent webisode of Spicy Pitch. Umesh, who recently celebrated ten years in international cricket, however, had one of the best and most honest replies up his sleeves to the ‘Kohli vs Dhoni’ debate.
Umesh, in a hilarious manner, said: “Difficult hai Bhai, aisa question mat puchho (laughs)”.
Umesh made his international debut under Dhoni. While the speedster made a mark with his raw pace, extra bounce and had a glorious run as India’s leading wicket-taker in the 2015 World Cup, it has been under Kohli that Umesh has gained more control. The fast bowling unit of the Indian team is currently the best produced by the country, which comprises the likes of Umesh, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.
Umesh has so far played 46 Tests and 75 ODIs for his national team. He has picked up 144 Test wickets and claimed 106 scalps in ODIs. Umesh made his Test debut against West Indies in 2011 and picked up two wickets. He has been in very good form in the Indian conditions despite lack of help from the pitch for the seamers.
