Former Pakistan cricketer, Shahid Afridi on Saturday (June 13), revealed that he has been tested positive with the novel coronavirus (COVI-19).

The 40-year-old took to Twitter to broke out the news and asked all his fans to pray for him.

“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately, I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah.”

Last month, Afridi had stepped in to buy a bat owned by Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim after a charity auction for the coronavirus victims was derailed by fake bids.

Mushfiqur had put the bat he used to score his maiden Test double hundred in 2013 against Sri Lanka up for the highest bidder online. But the organisers called off the auction as fraudulent offers were sent with the price soaring over USD 50,000.

“Afridi contacted me personally, and I sent him a link of the bid,” Rahim had said in an online forum.

“On May 13 he sent me a letter and offered USD 20,000. He bought my bat with this money. I am really privileged,” the Bangladeshi cricketer said.

In a career spanning over 20 years, Afridi represented Pakistan in 27 Tests, 398 One-day Internationals (ODIs) and 99 T20 Internationals (T20Is). He scored 8,064 runs in ODIs, 1,716 runs in Tests and 1,416 in the shortest format of the game.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s COVID-19 cases have reached 132,405 after a record 6,472 new infections were detected on Friday, while 88 more people have succumbed to the coronavirus, pushing the death toll to 2,551.

The Ministry of National Health Services said a record 29,850 tests were done in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in the country to 839,019.
