The resumption of cricket in England hangs by a thread after one of their all-rounders Sam Curran has gone into self-isolation following complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea. A positive result can jeopardize the much-awaited ‘project restart’ of English Cricket.
Curran was a part of the intra-squad warm-up match taking place in Southampton as a part of the preparation for the Test series against West Indies starting from next week. He was 15 not out at the end of the day, but later on, he complained of the ailment. The 22-year old all-rounder has locked himself in a hotel room at Southampton.
“England all-rounder Sam Curran has had sickness and diarrhoea overnight. He is feeling better this afternoon, and has been self-isolating in his room at the Ageas Bowl. He will play no further part in the practice match,” read an optimistic statement from ECB.
“He will play no further part in the practice match. He has been monitored by the team doctor throughout and was tested for Covid-19 earlier today.”
England is about to play three Test matches versus West Indies in a bio-secure environment inside a closed stadium. The visiting team has arrived at the beginning of June and has already completed the mandatory self-isolation period of 14 days.
Curran was a part of Jos Butler’s squad, while Ben Stokes was leading another team. Butler’s crew declared the innings after scoring 287 at the end of the first day. In reply, Stokes’ team were all out for 233. Further, this was the first time in any format Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, two of the most promising fast-bowling talents for the home team, made an appearance together. Both of them were part of Butler’s team.
Having already lost Joe Root, who is expecting to become a father for the second time, England would be in no mood to lose one their young and fiery all-rounder Sam Curran.
