Much has been talked about the future of MS Dhoni during his sabbatical from international cricket post-semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.

Since then, the talismanic Indian wicketkeeper-batsman has not featured in any competitive cricket. Moreover, Dhoni, keeping an eye on his berth for the T20 World Cup in Australia, was gearing up for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It was looking all hunky-dory for Dhoni fans who anticipated his return to competitive cricket, resuming stint for his beloved Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise.

However, calamity struck in the form of global COVID-19 pandemic, which cancelled or postponed all prominent cricketing events, causing ripples in scheduling throughout the year 2020.

It meant that Dhoni had to face a barrage of speculations regarding his retirement, rendering it to be the hot-topic of discussing in the cricketing community.

Now, Dhoni’s manager Mihir Diwakar has responded by shrugging off all speculations regarding the veteran stumper’s retirement decision.

“Being friends, we don’t talk about his cricket. But looking at him, he’s not all thinking about retirement. He is very determined to play the IPL. He has worked really hard for this. If you remember he was there in Chennai one month in advance before everything was shut down,” Diwakar told PTI.

Given the fact that BCCI is leaving no stones unturned for the conduct of IPL this year, Diwakar’s statement was music to the ears of ardent Dhoni fans.

“He has maintained his fitness regimen at his farmhouse and will start practice after the lockdown is lifted. Everything now depends on how fast the situation returns to normalcy,” Diwakar concluded.

Even the likes of Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla seconded Diwakar’s opinion on Dhoni’s supreme fitness, even in the twilight of his career.

The Indian contingent of CSK squad started their training at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai in March, looking at the upcoming edition of IPL.
