COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc across the world, and England has been no different. During these testing times, doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers have come to the rescue of people; they have put their lives on the line to fight the novel coronavirus.
In order to pay tribute to all the health workers across the country, England cricketers wore jerseys with the names of these people, who have been at the forefront in the fight against the deadly virus.
All members of England squad were recently seen wearing the jerseys with names of the health workers during the practice sessions ahead of the ongoing first Test between England and West Indies in Southampton.
Vikas Kumar is one of those doctors who work at the critical care unit of the National Health Service (NHS England) Trust hospital at Darlington in Durham. Kumar’s name was spotted on England’s stand-in skipper Ben Stokes’ jersey.
The Indian-origin was ecstatic after Stokes wore his name on the jersey. According to media reports, Vikas was overwhelmed to see Stokes and other cricketers putting that message out on their back. Kumar further said that it had been a tough period for him and his colleagues as the NHS staff have made a lot of sacrifices. He reckoned that this recognition is for the entire medical fraternity, including his doctor friends in India.
Vikas graduated from Delhi University and then completed a post-graduate diploma in anaesthesia from Maulana Azad Medical College. In 2019, he shifted to England with his beloved wife and their two-year-old son.
The 35-year-old Kumar also got a heartwarming message from Stokes, who thanked him for his relentless efforts in the pandemic situation. The star all-rounder thanked Vikas for everything he has done throughout in this pandemic.
