Kolkata Knight Rider (KKR) parted ways with Piyush Chawla last year (2019) after the leg-spinner failed to achieve anything substantial in the whole season.
For a bowler with proven experience in the league, getting another team in the next edition was not a difficult task.
However, what nobody expected is the fact that the 31-year-old will emerge as the most expensive player to feature in IPL 2020.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) paid a whopping amount of INR 6.75 crores to acquire the spinner.
In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, Chawla revealed that it was CSK captain MS Dhoni who decided to bring him into the squad.
“We were having a camp in Chennai just before the IPL was supposed to start. So, I had a discussion with him regarding cricket, and that was like I asked him about the decision of me getting into CSK, and he told me that obviously it was my decision to take you to CSK,” Chawla said.
The Gujarat-born bowler is among the most capped players of the tournament. With 150 wickets to his name, he ranks second in the list of leading wicket-takers.
Chawla attended the CSK camp held at Chepauk Stadium as a part of his preparation for IPL, a tournament originally scheduled to commence from March 29. However, the pandemic caused by COVID-19 played a spoilsport.
The bludgeoning rise in coronavirus cases across the nation makes it difficult to imagine the occurrence of the cash-rich league in India this year.
Meanwhile, Dhoni’s last appearance in international cricket came in India’s semi-final defeat to New Zealand in the ICC World Cup 2019.
