July 14 marked an important date in the history of England cricket when Eoin Morgan-led side won the 2019 ODI World Cup at the ‘Mecca of cricket’ – Lord’s.

Morgan became the first captain to lead England to an ODI World Cup title. Now, the Ireland-origin cricketer has admitted to watching the highlights of the final thrice during the lockdown.

The cricketing world has been in a standstill for the last four months due to COVID-19 hiatus. Fans were left with nothing much to do rather basking in glories of their favourite teams from the past.

“The last four months have been a bit of a challenge but that’s actually allowed me to watch the World Cup final – I’ve watched it three times now. And that’s allowed me time to sit back and actually enjoy it for the first time,” Morgan told inews.co.uk.

The much-anticipated final of the showpiece cricketing event exceeded all expectations. It turned out to be an absolute nail-biter, with the action going down to the last ball of the Super Over.

Even 102 over in the match could not separate England and New Zealand, as the former won the game on boundary count.

“It’s an incredible day to sit back and watch. The ebbs and flow of the game, it’s still tense throughout the whole day every time I watch it back. It’s a privilege to watch,” the world-cup winning captain added.

Morgan was also part of the England side which won the 2010 T20 World Cup in the West Indies. The team was then led by Paul Collingwood who was part of the support staff in the England camp during the 2019 World Cup campaign.

“I think the profile of the game has lifted quite substantially. Just world going off the back of people coming up to me in the street or in a pub or a cafe,” Morgan concluded.
