As cricket, slowly and steadily, returns to normalcy, the most burning question concerning two of the most celebrated cricketers of the modern era is back to the collective consciousness of cricket fanatics.
AB de Villiers and MS Dhoni, both of them are at the dusk of their illustrious career. At the same time, the former has retired from international cricket in 2018, the latter’s year-long sabbatical from cricket extends for an indefinite period due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) was an important tournament for both these players. They could have assessed their performance and fitness level in the league before arriving on any final conclusion about their international comeback.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra, while addressing the future of Dhoni and De Villiers, has remarked that both of them can feature for their national side once again.
Chopra said that there’s a lot of uncertainty regarding the former Indian skipper, but he could make himself available for the selection irrespective of his performance in the IPL 2020.
“When it comes to MS Dhoni, only he knows. There is nothing to talk about his form, because he hasn’t played for a year now and what to say about form? I don’t think his comeback is dependent on IPL,” Chopra said on his YouTube show Aakash Vani.
“If he wants to play and makes himself available and India wants to pick him, then he will be fine, he will be absolutely fine.”
Meanwhile, the cricketer-turned commentator was assured of De Villiers comeback. He felt that the Proteas star will return to international cricket soon.
“ABD’s form is still very good. His whole comeback has been facilitated. Sooner than later, you will see him playing again. If the T20 World Cup happens this year, you can see him (playing for South Africa) this year, or if it happens in 2021, then next year. I don’t think there is any problem. ABD, no doubt, he will be playing international cricket sooner than later,” asserted Chopra.
