Netizens poke fun at Murali Vijay after Ellyse Perry and Matt Toomua announce separation

Australian women cricket team’s superstar Ellyse Perry and her husband of 5 years, rugby union star Matt Toomua, have decided to end their marriage.

The sporting couple announced the news of their separation on Saturday.

“It’s with the greatest of respect for one another that we decided to separate earlier this year.

“We felt this was the right course of action and is in the best interests of each other and our current lives. This is something that has evolved and is a mutual decision.

“Throughout our relationship we have remained private and we ask that our space and privacy continue to be respected during this difficult time for both of us,” the pair said in a joint statement published by the Sydney Morning Herald.

Perry and Toomua tied the knot in 2015 after which the cricketer moved to Melbourne. They had met at Sydney Airport in 2012 and made their first public appearance as a couple at rugby’s 2013 John Eales Medal awards.

In the meantime, the netizens have poked fun at Murali Vijay, the out of favour Indian batsman. Earlier this year, Vijay called Perry ‘beautiful’ and also expressed his desire to have dinner with the Aussie star. “Ellyse Perry. She is very beautiful. I want to have dinner with her,” he said.

Perry didn’t mind replying to Vijay. The New South Wales-born also came up with a witty reply. “I hope he’s paying. That’s very kind of him. I’m flattered,” Perry said. Now that Perry has announced her separation with Toomua, the netizens feel that it has opened the doors for Vijay. But the Chennai stalwart is happily married to Nikita since 2012. They also have three children, two sons and one daughter.
