The ties between former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, Adam Gilchrist, and India goes back a couple of decades. He was part of the historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2001, where the Indian troops curtailed Australia’s 15-match winning streak.

Gilchrist was even part of the touring party which created history in 2004 by winning a Test series in India.

The explosive opener also led the now-defunct Deccan Chargers and then Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Like many Aussies, Gilly has had deep connections with India and accumulated many fond memories while visiting the mystical country.

During a recent talk show, Gilchrist recalled one such memory involving out of favour Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.

In the historic 2001 Test series, India came back brilliantly after facing defeat at the opening Test match at Mumbai. From there on, India, after following-on in the Kolkata Test match, went on to win the game and level the series.

The deciding Test match at Chennai went in favour of the hosts, as India won the series by 2-1 margin. Bhajji was instrumental in the iconic series win, with a whopping tally of 32 wickets in just three games, including a hattrick at Eden Gardens.

Now, Gilchrist has opened up about the word used by the Indian team whenever the Turbanator dismissed him.

“I can’t remember what the word was, but it wasn’t so much when I was scoring runs, but every time Harbhajan got me out. There was a word I’m not sure I must be saying it,” Gilchrist told Madonna Tixiera on her show ‘Live Connect.’

Further, he recalled the instance when he was chased by fans for a selfie while taking a walk in Mumbai.

“It was great fun. It’s always entertaining, always plenty of energy. Look forward to it. I’m not sure when the next trip will be but can’t wait to be back in India,” concluded Gilchrist.
