Talismanic Indian wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni’s international career comeback looks bleak now.
But ardent MSD fans will be enthused with the possibility of witnessing the great until 2022 in the Indian Premier League (IPL), donning the yellows for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as captain.
The CEO of CSK, Kasi Viswanathan, rubbished all claims about Dhoni’s contract termination after next year’s IPL.
“Yes. We can expect MS Dhoni to be part of both (IPL 2020 and 2021) and probably for even the next year, 2022,” Vishwanathan told India Today.
According to reports, Mahi has begun his preparation at Ranchi, Jharkhand, in his private indoor nets.
Further, Vishwanathan suggested that no one needs to worry about the fitness of their talismanic captain and when the time comes, he will rise to the occasion.
“I am getting updates through the media only, saying he has been training in Jharkhand in indoor nets. But we don’t have to worry about the skipper, boss. We don’t worry about him at all. He knows his responsibilities and he will take care of himself and the team,” Vishwanathan added.
Dhoni last featured in a competitive game in England, more than a year back, during the semi-finals against New Zealand at Old Trafford.
Furthermore, Vishwanathan announced that Dhoni and 15 other cricketers would take part in a short camp between August 16-20 at Chepauk, before flying to UAE. CSK awaits approval from the Tamil Nadu Government regarding the conduct of the session.
‘It will be a skill-based plus training camp. It can’t immediately start off with skills because they are coming back after a long off,” Viswanathan said.
Dhoni was part of the training camp organized by CSK in March, where he looked at his best, and in prime fitness. CSK began preparations a month ahead of the initially scheduled start on March 29.
