Iconic Indian wicket-keeper batsman, MS Dhoni’s batting number has been a point of debate in recent years.
A school of thought believes that the best number for Dhoni to bat is number four, but the talismanic wicketkeeper-batsman donned the role of the finisher in the Indian team.
However, for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Dhoni has often come out to bat at number four and looked at his most potent self. Now, CSK batting coach, Michael Hussey has revealed the ideal slot for Dhoni to bat.
“No. 4 is ideal for Dhoni to bat, but everyone in the middle-order will need to adapt as per the situation,” Hussey was quoted by India TV.
Under the influential leadership of the Ranchi-born cricketer, CSK lifted the IPL title in 2010, 2011, and 2018.
CSK has reached the playoffs on the most number of occasions in the tournament history. The Super Kings ended up as runners-up in the last IPL season.
Hussey, then, opened up about the challenges of playing cricket, post prolonged hiatus due to pandemic situation.
“[They need to] Just get in the ground and do the hard work. We are lucky to have a lot of experienced players in our ranks who know their game well. They also know what they need to prepare and how to be ready for the task.” he added.
Further, the former CSK batsman also opined on the challenges of staying in a biosecure bubble.
“Very excited about the tournament going ahead and interested to see how it will all go with no crowds and staying in a strict bio-secure bubble. It will definitely not be easy, but we must be disciplined and stick to the rules for the benefit of everyone’s health,” ‘Mr. Cricket reckoned.
In the end, Hussey rued about the lack of fans attending the tournament as spectators. “Fans are a huge support base for us. Because of the situation, crowds won’t be there. But I believe we will play with the same intensity,” Hussey concluded.
