MS Dhoni, like he did when he announced his Test retirement back in 2014-15, shocked everyone on Independence Day when he took to his official Instagram account to draw curtains on his 15-year-old international career.

“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired,” wrote Dhoni.

Post MSD’s announcement to retire from the game, social media went ablaze with current and former cricketers, and millions of Dhoni’s fans posted their heartfelt wishes for the legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batsman.

Joining the bandwagon, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir came forward to give his best wishes to his ‘old-friend’ Dhoni.

Taking to the micro-blogging site – Twitter, Gambhir wrote that their journey from “India A” to “The India (senior team) has been full of question marks, commas, blanks & exclamations and as Mahi puts a full stop to his chapter, Gambhir shared his own personal experience and said that the new phase is as exciting and there’s no limit to DRS (Decision Review System) here.

The veteran stumper was last seen in action during India’s heartbreaking World Cup 2019 semi-final loss against New Zealand on July 10 last year. In that match, Dhoni had scored a painstaking 72-ball 50 and was involved in a 116-run partnership with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja after the early top-order collapse.

However, once Jadeja was caught while trying to match up with the asking rate and Dhoni was run out of a sharp throw from Martin Guptill it was curtains down for the Men In Blue as they lost the contest by 18 runs. Dhoni had been on a sabbatical from competitive cricket since then.

He will be leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2020 that will be played from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE.
