The recent development from Indian cricket caused ripples globally as veteran MS Dhoni decided to put a full-stop on his glittering international career.
Cricketing stars from both past and present paid tribute to Dhoni’s excellent 15-year-old career as captain and wicket-keeping batsman.
For several years, it was believed that gaining respect from Australian players is one of the crown jewels a cricketer attains in career.
The Aussies were renowned for playing the game hard and competing until the last breath.
Dhoni has played some of his best cricket against the Kangaroos in the last decade and a half.
Post Dhoni’s retirement, the likes of Steve Smith, David Warner, Ricky Ponting, and many other stars, chimed in with their congratulatory posts on social media.
“Congrats @mahi7781 on an amazing international career. You were an incredibly tough opponent and a player that I always admired. It was an absolute pleasure to play with you for a few years at Pune and getting to know you a bit. You are a true gentleman and I wish you all the best in retirement,” captioned Smith’s post on Instagram.
“Congrats @mahi7781 on a fantastic career, he is one of the coolest guys I’ve played against on the park. #greatknock #calm #finisher,” Warner wrote in his Instagram post.
Even Australian stars from the past, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne also wished Mahi, congratulating the Indian stalwart for culminating a successful career.
“Always a pleasure to play against you @mahi7781 You did it with style, flamboyance and above all else, calmness. Your own way. The Dhoni way. Congrats on all you achieved,” captioned Gilchrist’s post.
“Congrats @msdhoni on a brilliant international career. I loved and enjoyed every contest we had as players and now I still have to find ways to stop you winning games against the @DelhiCapitals. Look forward to saying it in person in a few weeks time,” Ponting’s tweet read.
