A hilarious incident took place during the 20th match of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22.

Sydney Thunder all-rounder Ben Cutting suffered a brain-fade moment on the field during the Sydney Sixers’ innings.

On the fourth ball of the 16th over – the final over of the innings in a rain-shortened fixture – where the Thunder quick Nathan McAndrew bowled a sharp yorker to Christian after having erred with a no-ball on the previous delivery.

Christian hit the ball straight into the hands of Cutting, who was fielding on the offside inside the 30-yard circle. Cutting threw the ball in air, presuming a caught dismissal. He completely forgot that it was a free-hit delivery.

In the meantime, Christian and Jordan Silk completed a double and were seen bursting into laughter on the scenes that unfolded, while Cutting looked dejected with himself. Seeing the two batters laugh, even the commentators joined in the fun.

As far as the result of the match is concerned, the Sixers defeated the Thunder by 30 runs in the Sydney derby.

Chasing a revised target of 173, the Chris Green-led side got bundled out for 142 in 15.1 overs. Jason Sangha top-scored for the Thunder with a whirlwind 30-ball 47.
