Pakistan cricket team’s interim head coach Saqlain Mushtaq has stepped down from his post. So now, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking for an overseas player to be named as a regular head coach. They asked Mushtaq to become the full-time head coach of their team, but he turned down the offer citing personal reasons and won’t be continuing with the post.

“Saqlain told the chairman that while he was happy to have contributed as interim head coach he wouldn’t be able to accept a long term and permanent assignment as head coach as he had prior business and personal commitments,” a source said as quoted by NDTV.

“Saqlain conveyed that already his business has been affected due to his absence with the Pakistan team as interim head coach,” the source added.

Notably, Mushtaq was appointed as interim head coach of the Pakistani side after the sudden resignation of head coach Misbah-ul-Haq in September last year, ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.

Mushtaq served in the role at the T20 World Cup, Pakistan tour of Bangladesh and home series against West Indies. Pakistan performed well in the ICC event, having won all their fixtures in the Super 12 stage; however, they lost the crucial semi-final against Australia in the penultimate over.
