Not so long ago, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh had fired some shots at ex-India captain MS Dhoni and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not supporting him in the final stages of his professional career. Harbhajan had claimed that he had plenty of cricket left in him, but lack of backing from Dhoni and BCCI never allowed him to make an international comeback.
No wonder, Bhajji’s remarks raised several eyebrows and further strengthened the rumours regarding his alleged stony relationship with Dhoni. However, in an exclusive interview with News18, Harbhajan has rubbished such assumptions stating he has been good friends with the Ranchi-born superstar. Bhajji said he has no complaints with Dhoni or the apex Indian board but blamed the selectors for not doing justice.
“No, not at all. I have no complaints against MS. In fact, he has been a good friend all these years. I have a complaint to the BCCI, the sarkar (government) of that time. I call BCCI as sarkar! The selectors of that time didn’t do justice to their roles. They didn’t allow the team to be united,” said Harbhajan.
Harbhajan further asked a few burning questions concerning the players who were part of India’s 2011 World Cup triumph but didn’t play together again.
“See, everyone interprets a quote differently. I just wanted to convey that a lot of things could have been better post 2012. (Virender) Sehwag, me, Yuvraj (Singh), (Gautam) Gambhir could have retired playing for the Indian team since all of them were active in IPL as well. It is ironic that the Champions of the 2011 team never played together again! Why? Only a few of them played in the 2015 World Cup, why?” added Harbhajan.
