Team India defeated West Indies in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The Rohit Sharma-led side defended a low-total, taking the unassailable lead of 2-0.

The hosts started terribly after being asked to bat first, losing three wickets for just 43 in 12 overs. Captain Rohit (5), wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant (18), who came to open, and former skipper Virat Kohli (18), all failed to impress with the bat.

However, then the vice-captain KL Rahul and batting sensation Suryakumar Yadav teamed up to take India out of trouble. The duo formed a crucial partnership of 91 runs for the fourth wicket and looked settled to take India to a big total.

However, both the batters got involved in a mix-up that led to Rahul’s dismissal. It all happened during the 30th over, when Rahul while batting on 48, pushed the ball in the deep through the covers. The pair ran the first run, but while coming back for the second, Rahul stumbled in the middle of the pitch that eventually led to his run-out and ended the vital stand.

Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock termed the run-out as ‘bizarre’, stating that in such situations, once a player charges towards the pitch, he just runs even if the other person hesitates.

“A bit of a bizarre run-out. Normally in those situations, you just touch and move, and once you are charging to the end, the ball is going, you just put your head down and keep going even if the other guy stutters, you have to make sure you make your ground. So, he will be disappointed with that,” Pollock said on Cricbuzz.

Rahul was dismissed for 49, while Suryakumar went on to smash a half-century but soon go out for 64. Deepak Hooda (29) played a vital cameo to help India post 237/9 in 50 overs. In reply, the visitors were packed for 193, losing the contest by 44 runs. Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking four wickets for just 12 runs in nine overs, including three maidens.
