Team India thrashed Sri Lanka in the second and final Test in Bengaluru to register a clean sweep in the two-match series on Monday.

The visitors were put under pressure right from the word go on a pitch that offered loads of challenges for batters. Shreyas Iyers brilliant 92 ensured the hosts had a decent total on board. The momentum was then carried well by pacers who came back under lights and blew Sri Lanka away, eventually dismissing the tourists for 109. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers in the first innings for India, taking his first five-wicket haul at home.

With a big lead in their kitty, India batted positively in their second innings. Rishabh Pant’s 28-ball 50the fastest by an Indian in Tests – was a game-changing knock before Iyer yet again stepped up and smashed another half-century. Riding on Pant and Iyer’s heroics, India declared at 303/9, setting a massive target of 447.

In reply, Sri Lanka did show some fight, especially from their captain Dimuth Karunaratne, who hit a tremendous century in the fourth innings. But it wasn’t enough for the visiting side as other batters failed to contribute enough as Sri Lanka were eventually bundled out for 208, losing the contest by 238 runs. Bumrah was again a star with the ball for the home team, picking up three wickets for 23 in nine overs.
