Ever since his comeback from a shoulder injury, stylish Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has cashed on every single opportunity. Iyer showed his sublime batting display during the recently-concluded Sri Lanka series. In fact, the Mumbaikar has already shown a lot of versatility by batting at different positions in the Indian team.
However, when asked to pick his favourite batting position, Iyer revealed that he loves to bat at No.3. The right-handed batter said he has been batting at such a position for a long time and has been far more effective.
“Personally, I love to bat at No.3 and feel it’s the place for me since I’ve been batting at that position for a very long time. Otherwise, I’m flexible and happy to bat wherever my team needs me. I’m comfortable with that and come what may, I’m ready to explore,” said Shreyas to KKR.in.
Iyer also explained that the anchor role could differ from time to time and stated the importance of finishing games.
“You can’t basically portray yourself as an anchor. It can differ. On a given day, I can be the power hitter and, on another, play an anchor role. The roles can change according to situations. You can’t rely on one particular player to anchor the innings. If it’s your day, you need to go all out and see to it that you win for the team. Basically, the responsibility has to be taken by all the players in the team,” he added.
Notably, Iyer played a big role for his former franchise Delhi Capitals (DC), leading the side to the playoffs for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020. But he wasn’t retained ahead of the 2022 mega auction, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bagged his services for a whopping INR 12.25 crore for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
