Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma had to suffer a double misery on Wednesday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. After Punjab Kings (PBKS) handed MI their fifth consecutive loss in the fifteenth season, skipper Rohit was also penalised for a slow over-rate.
Rohit was fined INR 24 lakhs for maintaining the slow-over rate in the game against PBKS at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Along with the Mumbaikar, the rest of the members in the playing eleven were also fined INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lower.
“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Punjab Kings at the MCA Stadium, Pune on April 13,” read the official release of IPL.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 24 lakhs, and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lower,” added the release.

According to the official rules on minimum over rate requirements: “The third and each subsequent offence in a Season as Captain of the bowling team, the Captain will be fined Rs. 30 lakh and banned from playing in the Team’s next League Match.”
MI lost the contest by 12 runs as they failed to chase down the set target of 199 runs. It was the fifth-successive loss for the five-time champions, and they now remain the only winless side in IPL 2022.
