In the 23rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Mumbai Indians (MI) again failed to change their fortunes as they lost the contest against Punjab Kings (PBKS). MI were thrashed by 12 runs at the MCA Stadium on Wednesday (April 14), which was their fifth consecutive defeat in the fifteenth IPL season.
While there were many moments that captured the attention of fans, one episode gathered maximum eyeballs, involving two legendary players from both sides – Sachin Tendulkar and Jonty Rhodes.
It all happened after the game, when both the teams were shaking hands. In the process, a price-less moment took place between the two greats of the game as Rhodes tried to seek blessings from Tendulkar while touching his feet. But Master Blaster did his best to prevent Rhodes from doing so and rather gave a hug to his South African friend.
Notably, Tendulkar is currently the mentor of Mumbai, while Rhodes is the batting and fielding coach of Punjab. The clip of both players giving respect to each other went viral on social media.

Coming to the match, Punjab, after being invited to bat, first posted a massive total of 198/5 on the board in their allotted 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan (70 off 50) and Mayank Agarwal (52 off 32) were the major contributors in PBKS’ batting.
In the chase, Mumbai came close but fell short of 12 runs. Teenagers Dewald Brevis (49 off 25 balls) and Tilak Varma (36 off 20 balls) did an incredible job of setting up a good platform, but other batters failed to carry on the momentum could only take MI total to 186/9 in 20 overs.
“It was a good night, very happy to contribute to the team’s win. The crucial thing for us was the two points. We can’t just say it was runs on the board, this game had a lot of ups and downs. There were a lot of crucial moments, and more often than not, we were nailing and winning those moments,” said PBKS captain Mayank after the match.
