England’s all-time highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, James Anderson, is currently plying his trade for Lancashire in the ongoing County Championship Division One 2022. Anderson was part of the recently concluded high-voltage clash between Lancashire and Yorkshire held at the iconic Headingley in Leeds.

The ‘Burnley Express’ exhibited his class during Yorkshire’s second innings on the final day of the contest when he dismissed his long-time England teammate Joe Root with an absolute peach of a delivery.

It all happened in the 22nd over of Yorkshire’s second innings when Anderson came from over the wicket and bowled a good length delivery, which reverse swung and curved back in sharply from outside off.

Root went for a classic forward defence, but due to the reverse swing, the red-cherry managed to find a way to breach the gates of the batter, shattering into the stumps to pack Root’s innings for a mere 4 run score.

In the contest, Lancashire had complete dominance from the start of the match. After being asked to bat first, the visitors posted a humungous 566/9 d, thanks to scintillating batting by Keaton Jennings, Steven Croft and skipper Dane Vilas.

Jennings smashed a stunning double hundred to steady Lancashire’s innings after they were reduced to 12/2 in 11 overs. The left-handed batter scored 238 off 408 balls with the help of 32 boundaries before a run-out cut short his stay in the middle. Similarly, Croft also reached a triple-figure mark, hitting 104 off 231 balls. Vilas, on the other hand, made 82 off 126 balls as Lancashire eventually declared their first innings at 566/9.

In reply, Yorkshire were bundled out for 379 in the first innings and received a follow-on. Root was the only batter who could stand tall in front of Lancashire bowlers, smashing yet another century (147 off 218 balls) in County Cricket.

Following on, Yorkshire began their second innings 187 runs behind, with a minimum of 85 overs remaining. They were reduced to 45/3, with Root one of the fallen batters. But Harry Brook – the leading run-scorer in Division One – continued his excellent summer with an unbeaten 82 off 157 balls, helping Yorkshire reach 169/6 in 78 overs to seal the draw.
