In the 68th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by eight wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
Chasing 169, the Challengers got off to a tremendous start as Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli completely taking the game away from Gujarat with a dominating partnership.
Kohli roared back in the form, smashing his second half-century of the fifteenth season. Du Plessis and Kohli went on to add 115 runs for the opening wicket in 14.3 overs before the RCB skipper was dismissed for a well-made 44 off 38 balls, including five boundaries.
Kohli, meanwhile, continued the attack from one end, cutting short the target and making it easy for his team to chase down. The former RCB captain was all set to finish the game before Rashid Khan outfoxed him in the 17th over. Kohli played a match-winning knock of 73 runs from just 54 deliveries, with the help of 8 fours and a couple of sixes.
Glen Maxwell scored a quickfire 40 not out off 18 balls as RCB eventually managed to win the contest by eight wickets.
Earlier, GT captain Hardik Pandya led from the front, smashing his fourth half-century of the tournament. Hardik played an unbeaten 62 off 47 deliveries with the help of seven boundaries, including three sixes.
Apart from Hardik, David Miller (34 off 25) and Rashid (19 not out) chipped in with valuable contributions to help Gujarat post 168/5 in their allotted 20 overs. For the Challengers, Wanindu Hasranga bowled exceptionally well, conceding 25 runs in his quota of 4 overs and picking up an important wicket of Miller.
