Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar often shares videos on his YouTube channel where he gives his views on the burning topics of cricket. In his latest clip, the former India skipper has named a batter who, according to him, is an ‘under-rated’ player of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
Notably, the fifteenth season of the cash-rich league has reached its business end with only two league matches left to be played before the playoffs begin. The current edition has already seen some of the most high-quality batting displays and the utmost consistency.
The likes of Jos Buttler (629 runs), KL Rahul (537 runs) and Quinton de Kock (502 runs) have all scored over 500 runs this year. Tendulkar, however, went with Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Wriddhiman Saha, terming him an ‘under-rated’ player of this season.
Tendulkar reckoned that Wriddhiman possesses the ability to play shots everywhere and strikes well against both spinners as well as pacers.
“Wriddhiman Saha is an under-rated player. I rate him highly because he is a dangerous player. Can play shots everywhere against spinners and fast bowlers, but initially, his flow was affected because he couldn’t get much strike. When a batter is playing well, it is important for him to take more strike, but he didn’t get it as much as he would have liked to,” said Tendulkar.
The wicketkeeper-batter has fared well for GT in their run up to the Playoffs, scoring over 300 runs with the help of three half-centuries. Saha’s 68 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), 55 against Mumbai Indians (MI), and an unbeaten 67 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) justify Tendulkar’s statement.
Overall, Saha has played 142 games in the lucrative league, where the right-handed batter has managed to score 2422 runs at a strike rate of 128.22 with one hundred and 11 half-centuries to his name.
